GAF Ayurveda Biology Conclave

Largest Interdisciplinary Gathering of Professionals and Students of Ayurveda and Modern Biology

The GAF Ayurveda Biology Conclave is a satellite event associated with the Global Ayurveda Festival Kerala and the event aims to bring together experts, researchers and students from the fields of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy and Ayurveda to explore the scientific basis of Ayurveda and its potential applications in modern biology. The conclave will cover a range of topics related to Ayurveda and modern biology, over two days in two tracks ‘AYURVEDA FOR MODERN BIOLOGY’ & ‘MODERN BIOLOGY FOR AYURVEDA’. Both perspectives aim to bridge the gap between Ayurveda and modern biology, but they differ in their starting points and approaches. Ayurveda for Modern Biology begins with Ayurveda and seeks to contribute to modern biology, while Modern Biology for Ayurveda starts with modern biology and seeks to enrich Ayurveda with scientific evidence and methodologies.

There will be 5 plenary talks on each track followed by paper presentations and poster presentations by the researchers and students working on aspects related to Ayurveda Biology.

The conclave will also provide a platform for discussions on research methodologies, collaborations, and funding opportunities in the intersection of Ayurveda and biology.

Track I: Ayurveda for Modern Biology (Day I)

Ayurveda for Modern Biology refers to the application of Ayurvedic principles and practices in the context of modern biological research and understanding. It involves using the wisdom and knowledge of Ayurveda to inform and enhance modern biological studies, including areas such as genetics, physiology, pharmacology, and healthcare. Ayurveda for Modern Biology emphasizes leveraging Ayurvedic knowledge and practices to contribute to modern biological research and understanding. It recognizes the value of traditional wisdom and aims to find scientific explanations and applications for Ayurvedic concepts.

Sub themes:

  1. Ayurvedic Concepts and Molecular Biology
  2. Ayurvedic Pharmacology and Drug Discovery
  3. Ayurveda and Mind-Body Medicine
  4. Ayurveda in Dietetics and Nutrition
  5. Integrative Approaches in Healthcare

Ayurvedic Concepts and Molecular Biology:

Studies related to exploring the molecular mechanisms underlying Ayurvedic concepts such as doshas, prakriti, and the impact of Ayurvedic interventions on gene expression and cellular pathways.

Ayurvedic Pharmacology and Drug Discovery:

Exploring the potential of Ayurvedic herbs and formulations in drug discovery, including bioactive compounds, synergistic effects, and the integration of traditional knowledge with modern pharmacological approaches.

Ayurveda and Mind-Body Medicine:

Investigating the mind-body connection in Ayurveda, including the role of meditation, yoga, and mindfulness practices in promoting health and well-being from a biological perspective. Possibility of integrating psychology and psychiatric methods in Ayurveda and allied sciences on modern understanding and improving the methods of the research.

Ayurveda in Dietetics and Nutrition:

Examining the principles of Ayurvedic dietetics and their scientific basis, including the impact of Ayurvedic nutrition on gut health, metabolism, and overall well-being.

Integrative Approaches in Healthcare:

Examining the integration of Ayurveda with modern healthcare systems to promote holistic approaches to patient care, including the use of Ayurvedic principles in personalized medicine and integrative therapies.

Track II: Modern Biology for Ayurveda (Day II)

Modern Biology for Ayurveda refers to the integration of modern scientific methodologies and technologies into Ayurvedic research and practice. It involves using modern biological research tools, such as molecular biology, biochemistry, and clinical trials, to validate and explore the efficacy of Ayurvedic principles, herbs, and therapies. Modern Biology for Ayurveda involves adopting modern scientific methods and tools to study and validate Ayurvedic practices. It seeks to establish evidence-based approaches to support Ayurveda and integrate it with modern medicine.

 Sub themes:

  1. Validation of Ayurvedic Practices
  2. Multiomics and Ayurveda
  3. Ayurveda and Microbiome Research
  4. Ayurvedic Lifestyle Interventions
  5. Ethnobotany and Traditional Knowledge

Validation of Ayurvedic Practices:

Presenting scientific studies that validate the efficacy and safety of Ayurvedic treatments, therapies, and herbal formulations using modern biological research methods, including clinical trials and laboratory investigations.

Multi-omics and Ayurveda:

Multi-omics and Ayurveda represent the fusion of modern biological techniques with traditional Ayurvedic knowledge. By utilizing genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and epigenomics, researchers aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying Ayurvedic practices, validate its principles, and develop personalized Ayurvedic interventions.

Ayurveda and Microbiome Research:

Investigating the impact of Ayurvedic interventions on the gut microbiome, including the modulation of microbial diversity, interactions between gut bacteria and Ayurvedic herbs, and the role of the microbiome in Ayurvedic disease management.

Ayurvedic Lifestyle Interventions:

Examining the biological mechanisms behind Ayurvedic lifestyle practices, including daily routines (dinacharya), seasonal regimens (ritucharya), and rejuvenation therapies (rasayana), and their impact on physiological processes and health outcomes.

Ethnobotany and Traditional Knowledge:

Highlighting the scientific exploration of traditional knowledge and Ayurvedic wisdom regarding medicinal plants, including ethnobotanical surveys, phytochemical analysis, and conservation efforts.
